Options Program Outcomes
Ongoing training and individual support are provided to pregnant and parenting students and their children in three high schools each year.
Young Parents
In 2008-2009, 91% of participants remained in the Options program for the school year.
- 103 of these participants were young mothers and 7 were young fathers.
- Two-thirds of these participants were African-American and one-third were Hispanic.
- 85% of the Options Program participants who were seniors graduated from high school.
Children
Children of young parent participants received services through regular home visits that included developmental screening and enhanced parent-child activities.
- Nearly 2,000 books for young children supplied by CPS were distributed to the young parents and their children.
- Literacy and early learning activities were presented both at school and during home visits.
- A referral network was developed for each young family linking them to other community agencies for needed services.
- 91% of the children's immunizations were up-to-date.
